The Nanoionics and Fuel Cell Group from the area of Advanced Materials for Energy announces a Ph D fellowship position for a highly motivated candidate to work in the field of:

PROTON CONDUCTORS FOR CLEAN HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGIES

The hope for hydrogen progress in energy applications supposes new modes of production and implies that fuel cells present a higher efficiency and durability. Actual hydrogen production technologies suffer from a very bad CO2 finferprint, the hydrogen being produced from fossil resources. One important challenge is then explore novel solutions for the development of clean hydrogen technologies. The high temperature electrolysis appears then as an elegant way to produce hydrogen (or syngas) either from water or from H2O + CO2 mixture.

The Ph.D. candidate will carry out a multidisciplinary activity with the final aim to develop solid oxide electrolysis cells based on proton conductors for hydrogen or syngas generation. The present project will be focused on the formulation of new protonic conductors based on fluorite compounds which are much more stable in CO2 and H2O rich atmospheres and their implementation in solid oxide electrolyzers.
