(26 November 2010) Agenda of the main activities to come. The last one being of interest to ICT for Societal Challenges as on Wednesday 15 December there is the launch of the eGovernment Action Plan for better online services to citizens and businesses. Flagship projects will be there: STORK – (Secure Identity Across Borders Linked), PEPPOL – (Pan-European Public Procurement Online), SPOCS (Simple Procedures Online for Cross-border Services) and epSOS (Smart Open Services for European Patients).

- Innovation Union: Commission launches consultation on active & healthy ageing

(26 November 2010) The European Commission is seeking the views of public and private organisations, companies and individual citizens on how Europe could scale up innovation to meet the challenges of the ageing population in Europe, and in particular on a pilot European Innovation Partnership (EIP) on active and healthy ageing, as set out in the Innovation Union Flagship Initiative, presented on 6 October by Maire Geoghegan Quinn, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science and Antonio Tajani, Vice-President for Industry and Entrepreneurship. Between 2010 and 2030, the number of Europeans aged over 65 will rise by nearly 40%, posing huge challenges but also offering great opportunities for Europe's society and economy. The EIP, which the Commission has proposed should be launched in 2011, would seek to meet three goals: to improve the health and quality of life of older people, enabling them to live active and independent lives; to contribute to the sustainability and efficiency of health and social care systems; and to foster competitiveness and business opportunities. The online consultation runs until 28 January 2011.

- Preparation of pilot European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing – Follow live the stakeholder event of 26 November via web-streaming

(10 November 2010) The European Commission is organising a stakeholder conference to prepare a proposal for a pilot European Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing, which will take place on 26 November in Brussels, starting at 10am. The conference can be followed via web-streaming at this link: http://scic.ec.europa.eu/str/index.php?sessionno=e0ab531ec312161511493b002f9be2ee. The intention to prepare a pilot partnership was announced in the EU's "Innovation Union" flagship initiative, part of the Europe 2020 strategy. The proposed aim of a pilot partnership on active and healthy ageing is, by 2020, to enable citizens to live longer actively, independently and in good health by increasing the average number of healthy life years by two. This pilot partnership would build on coherent and integrated, stakeholder-led, citizen-centred and innovation–driven actions. The event is the first opportunity for stakeholder representatives to discuss their ideas and concrete actions for the partnership.
