Project Manager for the 3D Geovisualization and Modelling Unit
Reference: 2011-05-3DGVM-PM
Description of position:
* Function: Project manager for the research unit "3D Geovisualization and Modelling"
* Contract: Initially project related 1 year contract,objective of long-term collaboration and possibility of conversion into permanent contract
* Salary range: According to the selected candidate's experience and capacities
* Reporting: To the Head of the Unit
Functions and activities:
* Active search of regional, state, European and international funding sources in cooperation with the Head of the Unit and other researchers.
* Development of research initiatives and research proposals in the domain of 3D Geovisualization and modelling and support to the research staff in elaborating R+D+I proposals.
* Management of research and development projects from project development, project planning to implementation; including contract management, budget monitoring and justifications.
* Communication and presentation of the Unit's activities and organization of the Unit's educational activities.
* Active participation in international projects, research collaborations, research and educational networks.
The 3D Geo-Visualization and Modelling Unit (3D-GVM)
The 3D-GVM research unit led by Prof. Volker Paelke has been newly created in 2010 to conduct research in the domains of 3D geospatial data integration, interpretation and visualization. The central goal of the unit is to investigate the potential of 3D visualization and interaction to improve communication, analysis and interaction with geospatial and spatio-temporal data. To this end the group conducts research in the visualization and interactive analysis of complex geospatial datasets and develops and evaluates technologies for advanced user interface like mixed reality (MR) and augmented reality (AR) and adaptive user interfaces for location aware mobile applications. Applying a user centred design perspective these technologies are validate in a wide range of geospatial applications.
Candidate profile:
* Engineer, M.Sc. or any other equivalent background or professional experience that qualifies the candidate for the specific function and activities.
* Fluent communication in the three principal working languages of the Institute: English, Spanish and Catalan.
* Experience in the management of public competitive calls and contracting of research funding. In particular, knowledge and experience in the acquisition and management of EU-Framework Programme, the Spanish National Programmes or similar and private research contracts is an asset.
* Knowledge of technical, financial and administrative Project Management.
* High level of proactive, initiative working, responsibility, teamwork, capacities to organize working groups, result oriented precise quality work and communication skills.
* Previous academic or work experience in geomatics, GIS or geovisualization and a solid background in technology and/or research are assets.

The Institute of Geomatics is a non-profit public consortium of the autonomous Government of Catalonia (GC) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
