Future to hold a global system of interchangeable health records?

(13 March 2012) epSOS to lay the groundwork for a union-wide system of easily exchangeable patient data, to be in place by 2015. This way, citizens travelling around Europe could receive their medication even if they were not holding the related prescription.

Workshop: eHealth European Interoperability Framework (EIF)

16 April 2012 Brussels, Belgium

The workshop will address several topics related to the Digital Agenda action 77 that is to "Foster EU-wide standards, interoperability testing and certification of eHealth systems by 2015 through stakeholder dialogue". The action of the Commission in 2012 will be to "develop a European eHealth Interoperability Framework". In this context, the eHealth EIF study aims to define the future eHealth Interoperability Framework, to make a recommendation of a first set of ten use cases and their associated formalised specifications (by IHE and Continua ) and to provide recommendations on formalised specifications (or their development process).

In this second issue of the Newsletter epSOS presents the latest and most important achievements and activities of the epSOS project, as well as a forecast on upcoming actions. In the course of the year 2012, the epSOS pilot operation phase will be initiated and will last for one year. By implementing epSOS services, participating nations take an important step towards the goals of the EU directive on the application of patients' rights in cross-border healthcare.
