Postdoctoral studies in epigenetic regulation of drug
metabolism genes and drug response (scholarship)
Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för fysiologi och farmakologi
At the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (http://ki.se/fyfa_english) we teach and conduct
research in physiology, pharmacology, anesthesiology and intensive care. We have around 350
employees, 30 research groups, and 90 doctoral students.
Division
The research at The Section of Pharmacogenetics (http://ki.se/en/fyfa/pharmacogenetics) at the
Department aims to understand the basis for differences between individuals in metabolism, toxicity and
response of drugs. This includes genetic and epigenetic regulation of genes encoding drug transporters,
drug metabolizing enzymes and drug targets.
Duties
We are looking for a post doc fellow to join the project. One important basis for the work will be to use
novel types of 3D culture systems based on primary liver cells. In addition, imaging, flow cytometry,
liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry, chromatin immunoprecipitation, and next generation
sequencing will be employed. Previous experience of experimental work within the areas of cell and
molecular biology is required for the position.
This project is funded by a Marie Curie Career Integration Grant and the Karolinska Institutet Board of
Research, and is in collaboration with European laboratories within EU, IMI, EFPIA and Colipa funded
projects. The project focus on the epigenetics of regulation of drug response as well as on the effect of
drugs on the epigenome, including elucidation of receptors and mechanisms behind.
Entry requirements
Scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies may be awarded to individuals who come from other
countries with the intention of remaining in Sweden only while obtaining all or part of their education.
The head of the Department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications
correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher. Having received a salary or other remuneration from Karolinska
Institutet during the past two years may be disqualifying.
One requirement for receiving a scholarship for postdoctoral studies is central registration as a postdoc.
Type of scholarship
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship,
which is paid for a maximum of two years within five years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent,
is tax-exempt.
The amount is set for a maximum of six months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis.
Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English:
1. Curriculum vitae and qualifications, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet's
qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/meritportfolj )
2. A complete list of publications
3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)
4. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student
organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
5. Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is
scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
The application is to be submitted through the MyNetwork recruitment system.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the
improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40
per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offers the country´s broadest range of
education in medicine and health sciences. Since 1901 the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has
selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
Pursuant to the regulations of the Swedish National Archives, applications are kept on file for two years
after the appointment has gained legal force. The regulations do not apply to attachments that have been
printed or otherwise published.
Karolinska Institutet strives to provide a workplace that has approximately the same number of women
