The Vall d'Hebron Institute of Research (VHIR) launches the INCOMED programme, (co-funded by the FP7 Marie Skodowska-Curie COFUND program under Grant Agreement nº 267128), which aims to attract international highly talented scientists in all areas of biomedicine and clinical medicine.

Fellows taking part in the INCOMED programme will benefit from an advanced scientific training programme that includes individual research training, scientific and technology courses, and scientific and financial management of the research project. They will also benefit from career development activities that will include the membership in the VHIR postdoctoral committee, presentation of results at VHIR and international scientific conferences, and participation in laboratory and journal clubs.

Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public sector institution, located in Barcelona (Spain) that promotes and develops innovative biomedical research at the University Hospital Vall d'Hebron. VHIR is oriented towards finding solutions to the health problems of the citizens and has the will to contribute to the scientific, educational, social and economic development within its area of competence. The aim of the Preumonia & Sepsis Research Group (CRIPS), directed by Jordi Rello, is to develop translational and clinical research in critical care. This Group focuses on the most prevalent aspects of infections in the ICU (Ventilator-associated pneumonia, Severe Community-acquired pneumonia -and HCAP-, and opportunistic respiratory infections in severe immunocompromised patients).

Title of the position:
Postdoctoral Research Scientist.
The research project to be developed will be discussed so that it fits both the scientific interests of the candidate and the group. New proposals are welcome.

Job offer
Required skills:
 The candidate has to possess a PhD in biosciences.
 Strong background in Clinical Microbiology.
 Immunology deep knowledge is highly desirable.
 Strong experience in in vitro assays, cellular and molecular biology.
 The candidate must be proficient in the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed international scientific journals, paired with elaboration of scientific projects proposals.
 International experience will be highly valued.
 Have at least one publication as first author (either accepted, in press or published) at the time of the deadline.
 Good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English.
 Strong sense of responsibility, initiative, self-motivation and social skills as key personal abilities.
 Be non-resident undertaking trans-national mobility. The researcher must not have lived, worked or studied in the country of the host organization for more than 12 months in the past three years immediately prior to the call deadline.

Labour conditions:
 Full time position (40h / week).
 Gross annual salary: 34,000€
+ 8,400€ fixed amount designated to expenses linked to laboratory research
+ 6,000€ per year for family relocation
 Contract length: two years.
 Once awarded, candidates will have a maximum of three months to start the fellowship. This period may be extended if required to finalize unfinished research work in their previous organization.
