CIC Energigune is a new energy research center based in the Basque Country of Spain. Its mission is to play a leading role on the international stage in the field of energy storage technologies and contribute to the industrial competitiveness of the Basque Country. CIC has a world-class research facility, cutting-edge equipment, an experienced management team, and a scientific committee composed of prominent scientists, entrepreneurs, and industrial experts.
The Thermal Energy Storage (TES) group of CIC Energigune is focused on the research of systems that can store heat from medium to high temperatures. For that reason, different materials based on sensible and latent heat are being studied, simulations of new TES concepts are being performed, and design, construction and testing of new prototypes are being done in close collaboration between the three groups of the TES Area: Material & Device Modeling (MDM), Material Development & Characterization (MDC), Device Prototyping & Testing (DPT).

We are now inviting applications for a Group Leader position in the group of DPT - Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Area. The candidate must have a PhD in Engineering with more than 5 year experience in basic and applied R&D. The main role will be to:

• Define research directions and technical strategies for the DPT group in close relation with the Scientific Director of the Area.
• Develop roadmaps and work plans, leading the DPT group.
• Write proposals within the frame of the object of the CIC in order to secure funding from government and industrial sources.
• Responsible of DPT activities on the running projects. Lead the team in other to successfully comply with the projects.-Design, construct and test TES prototypes.
• Lead and manage a team of scientists, post-docs, and technicians.
• Coordinate collaborations with industries, universities, and other technical centers.
• Coordinate investigation and specific oriented services with TES facilities (Test Loops, etc).
• Coordinate engineering upgrades on the TES facilities.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary research with other areas of the CIC (SHS, LHS, etc).


What we offer
We are offering a permanent position as the group leader of the Device, Prototyping and Testing Group of Thermal Energy Storage (TES) Area.

The candidate will have the opportunity to develop his/her expertise in a multicultural environment working together in a dynamic group of researchers. The candidate will be responsible of the activities that the DPT group is performing in the running projects (regional, national, EU-H2020 and industrial) as well as to prepare projects for future opportunities.

What we are looking for
We are looking for candidates that hold a PhD in Engineering (preferably mechanical or thermal) with a solid background in:

• Thermal engineering, high and intensive thermal industrial processes, thermodynamics, thermal management, design of heat exchangers, etc.
• Mechanical engineering
• Prototype development: from concept design to construction and testing
• Upscaling of processes
• Engineering projects related to research and industry. Instrumentation.

We will assess expertise in the following aspects:

• Demonstrated group leadership and management.
• Facilitate teamwork, negotiation skills and conflict resolution.
• Communication skills.
• Project oriented person in order to manage resources effectively, find solutions and achieve goals.
• Basic and applied R&D
• Industrial R&D projects
• R&D project writing and implementation
• R&D diffusion (scientific publications, seminars, conferences, etc.)
• Patents

We expect high readiness to work with strong engagement and creativity in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

Applicants should be fluent in English. Knowledge of Spanish and/or Basque will be considered useful but not compulsory.
