REQUIREMENTS

The Mobile Networks Department of the Communication Networks Division from the Centre Tecnològic de Telecomunicacions de Catalunya announces the availability of 3 pre-doctoral positions. For more information about our Department please refer to http://networks.cttc.es/mobile-networks/

The position is associated with the Sustainable Cellular Networks Harvesting Ambient Energy (SCAVENGE) European Training Network (ETN), funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Action under the grant agreement nº 675891. SCAVENGE aims to create a training network for early-stage researchers (ESRs) who will contribute to the design and implementation of eco-friendly and sustainable next-generation 5G networks and become leaders in the related scientific, technological, and industrial initiatives. To realise its vision, the project will take a complete approach, encompassing the characterisation of intermittent and/or erratic energy sources, the development of theoretical models, and the design, optimisation and proof-of-concept implementation of core network, base stations and mobile elements as well as their integration with the smart electrical grid.

Pre-doctoral researchers will be part of SCAVENGE ETN and will be mainly involved in the SCAVENGE ESR3: Data Analytics for mobile network usage patterns in 5G networks powered by energy harvesting.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Candidates must have:

A Master degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or equivalent

Knowledge on mobile networks, sensor networks, big data

Knowledge on energy systems and management

Ability and motivation to conduct high-quality research, including publishing the results in relevant venues

Strong programming skills (e.g. C/C++, Java, Python)

Working experience in the areas of Mobile Networks, Sensor Networks, Smart Grid, Energy Harvesting, Big Data management, Cloud computing is an advantage.

Knowledge on Optimization Theory is an advantage

Knowledge on Data Mining is an advantage

Very good communication skills in oral and written English

Open-mindedness, strong integration skills and team spirit

Applicants for this position must be very motivated, with capacity of carrying out innovative research. Experience in in national and international R&D projects in the context of R&D institutions is a plus.

CONDITIONS

The contract is of 3 years and linked to the SCAVENGE ETN.

Gross salary is 3110€ per month. Additional salary can be given based on mobility and family position of the candidate.

The candidate must satisfy all the conditions of the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska Curie Action call 2015 to apply for this position.
