CIC energiGUNE is an energy research centre based in the Basque Country of Spain. Its mission is to play a leading role on the international stage in the field of energy storage technologies and contribute to the industrial competitiveness of Basque Country. CIC energiGUNE has a world-class research facility, cutting-edge equipment, an experienced management team, and a scientific committee composed of prominent scientists, entrepreneurs, and industrial experts
What we offer?
CIC energiGUNE is now offering the opportunity to complete the Research PhD project on the field of sodium ion batteries at our facilities. The candidate will be hired at CIC energiGUNE for three year.
Eligibility
Applications are open to students worldwide with a Master Degree in related subjects: materials science, physics, chemistry, engineering, etc.
Students who are residents in the Basque Country with fluent in Spanish or Basque language and with grade records (over 10) higher than:
7.5 in Engineering;
8.0 in Chemistry;
9.0 in Physics
would be desired but it would not be an exclusive point
Required skills:
We are looking for a highly motivated, talented and committed student with a solid background in materials science. The present PhD thesis is a multidisciplinary task: synthesis advanced structural and electrochemical characterization, as well as cell development. Therefore requires a flexible and open-minded candidate with a strong ability to learn. Other required skills are the ability for working in a team, high level of spoken and written English language and independent working.
PhD project Description
Research Line: Na-ion research line (EES)
Title: Towards new advances in polyanionics compounds for sodium ion batteries
Supervisor: Dr. Montse Galceran
Na-ion batteries have attracted more attention recently due to low cost, abundant supply and widespread terrestrial reserves of sodium mineral salts. On the basis of element abundance, Na-ion technology is an ideal alternative to lithium ion batteries and is especially appealing as it can use the same production technology as the LIB with lower cost.
The aim of the present PhD Fellowship will be focused on the research in polyanionic compounds as positive electrode materials for Na-ion batteries. New approaches or/and new classes of materials are needed to go forward of this emerging technology. The research work will include synthesis, physic-chemical characterization, evaluation of the electrochemical performances in Na-ion batteries, characterization of the structural and redox processes occurring upon battery cycling.
The final goal will be the assembling of a full Na-ion battery in the laboratory scale and/or in the dry room. This work will be carried out in order to optimize the electrochemical performance for developing a competitive prototype of sodium ion battery.
